Major "Events" of his Presidency:
- Ulysses S. Grant had been the eighteenth President of the nation with Schuyler Colfax as his Vice President for his first term and Henry Wilson as his Vice President for a majority of his second term.
- His terms as President lasted from 1869 to 1877.
- Led the Union Army to defeat the Confederate military and ultimately the Civil War.
Major "Events" of his Presidency:
- The completion of the first transcontinental railroad and the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge
- Virginia, Mississippi, and Texas are readmitted into the Union. Colorado is admitted into the Union.
- Black male suffrage becomes universal when the Fifteenth Amendment -- demanding that no state shall deprive any citizen of the right to vote because of “race, color, or previous condition of servitude” -- is adopted with Grant's help and approval. Additionally, Grant makes it a federal crime to deprive anyone of the right to vote.
- The signing of the Indian Appropriation Act.
- The Great Chicago Fire marks the beginning of the urban innovation of skyscrapers.
- The passing of the Coinage Act of 1873.
- The establishment of the Women's Christian Temperance Union
- The signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1875.
