- George Washington had been the first President of the nation with John Adams as his Vice President for both terms.
- Terms as President lasted from 1789 to 1797 (8 years).
- He had been unanimously elected and ran unopposed for both terms in office.
Major "Events" of his Presidency:
- He had played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as the Commander-In-Chief.
- He had led a troop of 13,000 militia men, provided by the governors of Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, into Western Pennsylvania to suppress the resistance to the Whiskey Tax in what is known as the "Whiskey Rebellion" of 1791.
- Washington established the framework of the Executive Branch and popular rule.
- He appointed the first members of the Supreme Court.
- Signed into law the Bill of Rights.
- He determined the construction of the new national capital (one that would bear his name).
- Aided Hamilton in the creation of the first national bank.
- Aided Hamilton in the signing of the Funding Act of 1790 that designated all state debts to be paid by the Federal government.
