General Information:
- Andrew Jackson had been the seventh president of the nation with John C. Calhoun as his Vice President for three years of his first term (no Vice President for part of 1833) and Martin Van Buren as his Vice President for his second term.
- Terms as President lasted from 1829 to 1837.
- The time of his Presidency had been labeled the "Jacksonian Era."
- Jackson served as a Major General in the U.S. Army.
- The Eaton Affair of 1828 had been the issue where John Henry Eaton had married Margaret "Peggy" O'Neale and had been part of the group called the "Cabinet Wives." The Cabinet Wives rejected her based on the reasons she had become part of the group and it had caused turmoil through the cabinet, leading to the resignation of several male party members.
- The Indian Removal Act of 1830 authorized Jackson to negotiate with the Native Americans in the Southern states for their removal towards territory west of the Mississippi River. This act mainly involved the "Five Civilized Tribes."
- The Ordinance of Nullification declared the Tariff of Abomination null and void within the borders of South Carolina. It had been repealed by South Carolina when Jackson sent a naval fleet to South Carolina and threatened violence in order to enforce the law.
- Jackson had vetoed the recharter of the Second National Bank of the United States and hired multiple secretaries in order for them to approve of his desired actions of removing all federal funds from the National Bank and distributing them into small, State-run banks.
